    Echium pininana

    £4.50£9.50
Echium pininana – this exotic, evergreen plant originates in the Canary Islands and has an unusual appearance with huge hairy, silver leaves. Also evocatively named the Giant’s Vipers Bugloss, it seeds freely after flowering from the very tall spikes of funnel-shaped blue flowers it produces in the summer. (Height 3-5 metres). To thrive it needs full sun and well-drained soil and although it can withstand temperatures as low as minus 5 degrees centigrade, it should be protected from hard frost. It can cause skin irritation. Pictures are for guidance only. Plants available in a one litre pot are significantly smaller than those in a four litre pot. Griselinia littoralis

    £6.95£35.95
ONLY 5 LITRE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ONLINE.
Griselinia littoralis is a fast growing evergreen with apple green leaves, hardy to at least -10°C. It will withstand salt laden winds on the seafront in sheltered or enclosed estuaries like St. Mawes and Falmouth in Cornwall, but in exposed positions will need to be positioned several hundred feet from the sea.
For extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend the tougher Elaeagnus ebbingei or Olearia virgata Laxifolia.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
  • Euonymus Microphyllus foliage close upEuonymus Microphyllus plants

    Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus

    £8.50£24.95
Available in a 3 litre or a 10 litre pot. Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus is an evergreen, densely bushy, rounded shrub with dark green leaves. A great alternative to Buxus (prone to box blight and other pests and diseases), it can provide a great low screen or box hedge when plants are positioned next to each other. Low maintenance, with a compact growth habit, this variety will reach only a maximum of 1m/3.3ft tall and wide eventually, spreading right to ground level. It is well suited to trimming to a desirable shape, making maintenance very easy indeed. Variegated gold leaf highlights and small greenish-white flowers in early summer offer added interest. Hardier than some Euonymus varieties it is an excellent option for hedging, or in and around borders. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants). Or check out our 75 plant UK wide Pallet Deal on 3 litre Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus.

  • Olearia Laxifolia

    Olearia Laxifolia

    £9.95£25.00
Olearia virgata Laxifolia has become a firm favourite with us here at Trevena Cross Nurseries and is planted on our own land as screening. Perhaps not as well known or as well understood as some other hedging types, we are keen to promote its merits as a fantastic grower! We have come across nothing so tough, or so quick to form a decent screen or hedge. Olearia traversii is another great coastal hedge we recommend.
  • Prunus Genolia foliagePrunus Genolia plant picture
Available in a 5 litre pot. A variety of Cherry Laurel, Prunus laurocerasus Genolia is a Swiss evergreen shrub, ideal for mass planting as hedging or screening due to its dense, erect, columnar growing habit. Slower growing than common laurel, it displays shiny, dark green, fairly elongated foliage and in spring bears erect racemes/clusters of white flowers, which are attractive to bees and other wildlife. In autumn, some glossy black (inedible) fruits and (poisonous if eaten) seed capsules follow. It’s compact growth forms a narrow hedge, perfect for the smaller garden or where space is an issue. Trimming and pruning requirements are also reduced as a result. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Prunus laurocerasus Genolia hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

Available in a 4 litre or 10 litre pot. Olearia traversii is a tough, quick growing, upright evergreen shrub, and ideal as a hedging plant when used in multiples. It displays glossy green leaves, which are silvery-white on the undersides, creating a lovely two-tone effect. Inconspicuous daisy-like flowers bloom on panicles in early summer. It particularly makes a great coastal hedge, due to its tolerance of salt winds and dry, sandy soils. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Olearia traversii hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

  • Griselinia Variegata leaves close upGriselinia Variegata plants
Available in a 5 litre pot. A slower growing Griselinia, this attractive variety grows about 30cm / 1ft a year, if fed with a very good slow release fertiliser like Trevena Cross Fertiliser, making it very suitable for smaller sized hedges. It's attractive variegation is displayed on leaves that tend to be rounder in shape than on it's close relative Griselinia Green Jewel. Like the standard Griselinia, it will withstand salt laden winds but will only tolerate a seafront position if located in a sheltered estuary or inlet, like St Mawes or Falmouth in Cornwall. In exposed locations, Griselinia would need to be positioned several hundred feet away from the sea or for extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend an alternative like the tougher Elaeagnus or Olearia traversii. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Variegata hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
  • Griselinia Green Horizon plantGriselinia Green Horizon product picture

Similar to the standard Griselinia, but with darker green, glossy leaves, Griselinia Green Horizon is a fast growing evergreen, hardy to at least -10°C to -12°C. It will withstand a coastal position and salt laden winds well but as with the standard and other variations of Griselinia, prefers a more sheltered estuary or inlet like St Mawes or Falmouth in Cornwall. In more exposed locations, Griselinia Green Horizon will need to be positioned several hundred feet from the sea, and for extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend the tougher Elaeagnus or Olearia hedging types.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia green Horizon hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
  • Sea of Griselinia Green JewelGriselinia Green Jewel product picture
Available in a 5 litre pot.
A more subtle variation in colour than Griselinia Variegata, Griselinia Green Jewel displays bright, glossy green leaves, splashed cream margins, and grey undertones across the leaf. The leaves tend to be slightly more pointed than the rounder leaf of Variegata too.
Like the other Griselinia varieties, it tolerates a coastal position and salt laden winds very well, however it prefers more enclosed/sheltered estuaries. Very exposed locations would be better suited to the tougher Elaeagnus or Olearia hedging types.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Green Jewel hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
