  • Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus
The nursery grows thousands of different perennials every year - and they are available at the garden centre in various sizes. One of our most popular sizes is the two litre perennial - a nicely established plant but also a very cost effective buy, and still with plenty of growing on to do. Perfect for a mixed perennial or shrub and perennial border - or perhaps as focal points in pots of summer colour! An example of the selection available includes different varieties of Aquilegia, Campanula, Coreopsis, Gaillardia, Lupinus, Rudbeckia and Salvia. Your three selected 2ltr plants could form any combination and will be chosen based on current availability, but we will aim to supply a mixed selection (unless requested otherwise).

Cyathea australis - A large, evergreen fern with a rough, thick trunk. It grows up to 4 metres high pretty quickly with a spread of 6-8 metres and each frond can reach up to 4 metres long in good conditions! The Cyathea tolerates the sun as long as the soil is moist, but does need a good sheltered site to thrive. Some sources suggest it’s hardier than a Dicksonia Antarctica. It will be hardy to minus 8 degrees centigrade, but be aware that the fronds will get frosted in severe winters, so give the plant protection. Probably the best tree fern for a sunny site with its large evergreen fern and hairy trunk. Plant in a sheltered area or with light shade and add peat when planting or inside in a conservatory. • Dicksonia antarctica tree fern
    Out of Stock
NOT CURRENTLY IN STOCK Available in a range of sizes, from 1ft of trunk right up to 8ft of trunk, and priced per foot - £45 per foot for trunks up to 5ft tall and £50 per foot for trunks 6ft tall and above. Don’t forget the measurement also includes the ‘hidden’ trunk within the pot/beneath the ground so a 4ft trunk tree fern won’t be 4ft of ‘visible trunk’ – but nearer 3ft of visible trunk. Do take this into consideration when thinking about the size that would best suit you and your garden – and the fact that they are slow growing, so will take a great deal of time to reach a ‘desired height’ if you purchase one a way off that height. PLEASE NOTE: Up to 5ft trunks: Are sent on a pallet with fronds intact. These trunks, plus fronds, should arrive in good condition. 6ft trunks: Can be sent with fronds but we cannot guarantee that the fronds will arrive intact. We always do our best to protect them when packing on to the pallet, but transit can sometimes disturb/damage the fronds.  7 - 8ft trunks: Due to height restrictions, these trunks will normally be removed from the pot and fixed to the pallet. They will arrive without fronds due to difficulties keeping them intact during transit. They will usually fall into the category of an 'oversize item', which means carriage will be more expensive - usually the cost of two pallets, and therefore double the carriage charge of trunks up to 6ft in height. Please contact us for specific details.

Echium pininana – this exotic, evergreen plant originates in the Canary Islands and has an unusual appearance with huge hairy, silver leaves. Also evocatively named the Giant’s Vipers Bugloss, it seeds freely after flowering from the very tall spikes of funnel-shaped blue flowers it produces in the summer. (Height 3-5 metres). To thrive it needs full sun and well-drained soil and although it can withstand temperatures as low as minus 5 degrees centigrade, it should be protected from hard frost. It can cause skin irritation. Pictures are for guidance only. Plants available in a one litre pot are significantly smaller than those in a four litre pot. As a guide: 2 litre – currently 30cm high 5 litre – currently 40-50cm high IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: We don’t believe the height of our hedging plants to be of huge importance when we make them available for sale. In fact we trim all of our hedging plants several times a year to promote a bushy plant, that will be ready to form a decent hedge right away. Height isn’t everything – while a 2 litre plant could easily be 1m tall without trimming, this ‘leggy’ specimen wouldn’t be the kind of plant that you want for a hedge. A trimmed one with multiple shoots, will establish as a hedge much more quickly, and we therefore believe shape and bushiness to be real signs of quality, rather than current plant height.

We trim all of our hedging plants several times a year to promote a bushy plant, that will be ready to form a decent hedge right away. Height isn’t everything – while a 2 litre plant could easily be 1m tall without trimming, this ‘leggy’ specimen wouldn’t be the kind of plant that you want for a hedge. A trimmed one with multiple shoots, will establish as a hedge much more quickly.

Similar to the standard Griselinia, but with darker green, glossy leaves, Griselinia Green Horizon is a fast growing evergreen hedging plant, hardy to at least -10°C to -12°C. It will withstand a coastal position and salt laden winds well but as with the standard and other variations of Griselinia, prefers a more sheltered estuary or inlet like St Mawes or Falmouth in Cornwall. In more exposed locations, Griselinia Green Horizon will need to be positioned several hundred feet from the sea, and for extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend the tougher Olearia hedging types.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Green Horizon hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

    Griselinia Green Jewel

    £10.95£35.00
Currently unavailable online. A more subtle variation in colour than Griselinia Variegata, Griselinia Green Jewel displays bright, glossy green leaves, splashed cream margins, and grey undertones across the leaf. The leaves tend to be slightly more pointed than the rounder leaf of Variegata too. Like the other Griselinia varieties, it tolerates a coastal position and salt laden winds very well, however it prefers more enclosed/sheltered estuaries. Very exposed locations would be better suited to the tougher Elaeagnus or Olearia hedging types. Plants on average supplied at 60-90cm high, but this can vary. A quick grower, we don't find height of griselinia is really such an important factor when considering the quality of the plant. A decent pot size provides a good indication of plant robustness and bushiness, and in fact we will cut our nursery plants down to encourage bushier growth (rather than a 'leggy' plant). if we feel it necessary. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Green Jewel hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

  • Griselinia Redge at Trevena Cross
    Out of Stock
Currently unavailable online Griselinia Redge is an evergreen, compact grower with attractive glossy green leaves, offset by dark coloured leaf stalks and stems. It could be considered more shrubby growing than the standard variety, but also makes a fantastic hedge with its better branching and strong healthy roots, resistant to disease. Slower growing than the standard it grows around 30cm a year, and is therefore a great one for a lower hedge, smaller garden or even container cultivation. It is reported hardy down to around -7°C, and will withstand salt laden winds on the seafront in sheltered or enclosed estuaries like St. Mawes and Falmouth in Cornwall, but in exposed positions will need to be positioned several hundred feet from the sea. For extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend the tougher Olearia traversii Compacta over Griselinia littoralis Redge, although Griselinia is a super choice for most locations. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Redge hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

    Out of Stock
Miracle-Gro All Purpose Continuous Release Plant Food feeds plants for up to six months with just a single application. A clever temperature-controlled coating means its 10 essential nutrients are only released into the soil/compost, and will only be to the plant's benefit when the conditions are right. The fertiliser won't leach with heavy rainfall or be 'feeding' when the plant doesn't require it/out of growing season.  This 'slow release' fertiliser removes the need for regular feeding, and yet contains all of the essential nutrients necessary to produce a strong healthy plant.
