  • Originating from New Zealand the Dicksonia fibrosa is also known as the golden tree fern or perhaps more fabulously as the Wheki ponga. An evergreen fern which slowly grows over 20+ years to 2 metres tall with 2 metre long dark green fronds. It's a striking, hardy addition to a shady garden or courtyard space. • Cyathea australis - A large, evergreen fern with a rough, thick trunk. It grows up to 4 metres high pretty quickly with a spread of 6-8 metres and each frond can reach up to 4 metres long in good conditions! The Cyathea tolerates the sun as long as the soil is moist, but does need a good sheltered site to thrive. Some sources suggest it’s hardier than a Dicksonia Antarctica. It will be hardy to minus 8 degrees centigrade, but be aware that the fronds will get frosted in severe winters, so give the plant protection. Probably the best tree fern for a sunny site with its large evergreen fern and hairy trunk. Plant in a sheltered area or with light shade and add peat when planting or inside in a conservatory.
