IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: We don’t believe the height of our hedging plants to be of huge importance when we make them available for sale. In fact we trim all of our hedging plants several times a year to promote a bushy plant, that will be ready to form a decent hedge right away. Height isn’t everything – while a 2 litre plant could easily be 1m tall without trimming, this ‘leggy’ specimen wouldn’t be the kind of plant that you want for a hedge. A trimmed one with multiple shoots, will establish as a hedge much more quickly, and we therefore believe shape and bushiness to be real signs of quality, rather than current plant height.

A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Olearia Laxifolia hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

Product Description

Olearia virgata Laxifolia has become a firm favourite with us here at Trevena Cross Nurseries and is planted on our own land as screening. Perhaps not as well known or as well understood as some other hedging types, we are keen to promote its merits as a fantastic grower! We have come across nothing so tough, or so quick to form a decent screen or hedge. Olearia traversii Compacta is another great coastal hedge we recommend.

Olearia Laxifolia, an extremely tough, hardy evergreen shrub is suitable for growing in the most exposed positions near the sea, and is neater and easier to grow than Tamarisk.

It is fast growing, (about 1m/3.3ft a year when fed with a good quality fertiliser like Trevena Cross slow release Fertiliser). It forms an upright growing hedge 3-4.5m/10-15ft tall but can be trimmed down to any reasonable desired height. Its slender leaves make it very wind resistant and in summer it produces pretty small, fragrant, daisy like flowers.

It should be planted in a well-drained soil in an open, sunny position.
