Griselinia Redge is an evergreen, compact grower with attractive glossy green leaves, offset by dark coloured leaf stalks and stems. It could be considered more shrubby growing than the standard variety, but also makes a fantastic hedge with its better branching and strong healthy roots, resistant to disease. Slower growing than the standard it grows around 30cm a year, and is therefore a great one for a lower hedge, smaller garden or even container cultivation.

It is reported hardy down to around -7°C, and will withstand salt laden winds on the seafront in sheltered or enclosed estuaries like St. Mawes and Falmouth in Cornwall, but in exposed positions will need to be positioned several hundred feet from the sea. For extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend the tougher Olearia traversii Compacta over Griselinia littoralis Redge, although Griselinia is a super choice for most locations.

A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Redge hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

Product Description

Dense, compact growing, Griselinia Redge will grow around 30cm/1ft a year if fed with a very good slow release fertiliser like Trevena Cross Fertiliser, reaching a height of around 2m, (potentially up to 6m after 10-20 years). It can of course be trimmed, even a 1m hedge can look very neat.

Each specimen should be planted 40-90cm/18inches-3ft apart from one another – although they can be planted further apart if you do not mind waiting longer for them to form a solid hedge.

Griselinia Redge prefers a sunny, sheltered position in a well drained, fertile soil. It can be quite drought tolerant once established.
