We’ve chosen a special selection of our favourite plants to grow in larger numbers for our garden centre visitors and are now making these available for you to buy online. Our ‘top plant picks’ include unusual, rare and appealing specimens which we will deliver to you.

Many of these plants are so rare they are difficult to find at other garden centres across the country. Others have special historical significance to us. We’re proud to have been one of the very first places in the UK to grow and sell ‘exotica’ such as the Restios and continue to grow and sell these plants today.

All these plants are available to buy online, subject to availability as they sell out fast! Watch out for new additions being added to our Trevena favourites in our ‘top plant picks’ selection.

As a traditional nursery growing a huge range of plants we aren’t able to maintain a complete catalogue of plants in our online shop due to continuously changing stock levels. If you’d like to buy plants which aren’t on the website, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us as we are happy to arrange payment and delivery (subject to availability). Call us on 01736 763880.

    Aloe striatula

    £10.50
Originating from South Africa, the Aloe striatula is a hardy, resilient succulent (1 metre in height and spread) which is tolerant of drought and frost. In early summer this plant produces colourful, orange-yellow flowers which are set off against the stripey light and dark green stems creating a compelling and curious (almost alien like) appeal. Plant in full sun in a very well drained soil with extra grit added when planting. Situate in wall-side borders, rock gardens, gravel gardens or patio containers for best effect. Pictures are for guidance only. Our online shopping Terms & Conditions (postage and returns) can be viewed here: /online-shopping-terms-conditions/
  • Prunus-laurocerasus-Etna
    Out of Stock
Out of stock online - only available at the garden centre in a 5 litre pot. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: We don’t believe the height of our hedging plants to be of huge importance when we make them available for sale. In fact we trim all of our hedging plants several times a year to promote a bushy plant, that will be ready to form a decent hedge right away. Height isn’t everything – while a 2 litre plant could easily be 1m tall without trimming, this ‘leggy’ specimen wouldn’t be the kind of plant that you want for a hedge. A trimmed one with multiple shoots, will establish as a hedge much more quickly, and we therefore believe shape and bushiness to be real signs of quality, rather than current plant height.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Prunus laurocerasus Etna hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
  • Dicksonia antarctica tree fern trunksDicksonia antarctica tree fern
Bare root Dicksonia antarctica tree fern trunks - sent as bare trunks, not in a pot. Available s 1ft and 2ft trunks. For larger sizes (3ft - 6ft trunks), please click here. Please contact us re. delivery costs if planning to purchase small trunks and large trunks as part of the same order. We will always try to give you the best price for delivery. Don’t forget the measurement also includes the trunk that will be ‘hidden’ within the pot/beneath the ground when planted out, so a 2ft trunk tree fern won’t be 2ft of ‘visible trunk’ – but nearer 1ft of visible trunk. Do take this into consideration when thinking about the size that would best suit you and your garden – and the fact that they are slow growing, so will take a great deal of time to reach a ‘desired height’ if you purchase one a way off that height. PLEASE NOTE: Up to 5ft trunks: Are sent on a pallet with fronds intact. These trunks, plus fronds, should arrive in good condition.
  • Lonicera-Scoop-foliageLonicera-Scoop
    Out of Stock
Available in a 2 litre pot, currently around 30-40cm high. Ideal height: 40-100cm/1.5-3ft Growth rate: 20-40cm/8inches-1ft a year Position & planting: plant 30cm/1ft apart; fertile, well drained soil in full sun-part shade Perfect for… neat, small box type hedge or for topiary This 'box honeysuckle' is possibly the best box substitute, compact growing with evergreen tiny dark green, glossy leaves, perfect for a uniform, low hedge (up to 1m tall), or for topiary. Once established it will display tiny white, mildly scented flowers in spring followed by small purple-black fruit later in the year. It should be grown in sun to partial shade in a well drained soil and is hardy to -12 degrees C. It doesn't like very wet soil. Great for topiary because it grows in a naturally neat, rounded shape that is easy to prune. Pruning encourages it to grow more densely, and it is actually quite a quick grower in a lighter soil, perfect if you're after a quick low border or hedge. It can also sit nicely in a large pot if you want a focal point as a specimen plant pruned to your desired shape. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Lonicera Scoop hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

  • Corokia x virgata Sunsplash foliageCorokia x virgata Sunsplash - Trevena Cross
    Out of Stock
Corokia x virgata Sunsplash (1.2-1.5m height and spread) is part of our coastal plant collection and it is a great one for seaside planting - tolerating salt laden winds well. It is evergreen for year round interest, with green-yellow and cream variegated foliage, sometimes flushed orange, and small star shaped yellow flowers in spring, followed by shiny orange-red berries in autumn. It works well as a low hedge, due to its compact, upright growing habit too. Enjoys a well drained, fertile soil in a sunny, ideally sheltered position.
  • Hypericum Hidcote yellow flowerHypericum Hidcote at Trevena Cross
    Out of Stock
Also known as St John's Wort, Hypericum Hidcote is a reliable grower, bearing masses of golden yellow flowers (around 5cm in diameter) through summer and into autumn. Its dense and bushy habit (1.5m height and spread) makes it perfect in a border with other shrubs or a mixed border with perennials. It grows well in moist but well drained soil, in full sun or partial shade, ideally somewhere sheltered, protected from cold, drying winds. It is also attractive to bees - an added bonus!
  • Pittosporum Tom Thumb
    Out of Stock
Pittosporum tenuifolium Tom Thumb is a compact, rounded shrub with attractive small, dark purple leaves, which contrasts strikingly with its light green young growth. Grown for its foliage, its slow growing nature suits a smaller space (ultimate height and spread only up to 1m). It should be grown in a sheltered spot in full sun or part shade, in a moist but well drained soil.
  • Prostanthera rotundifolia Rosea
    Out of Stock
Also known as the Australian Mint Bush, this bushy, evergreen shrub has strongly mint-scented dark green leaves and an abundance of pretty pale rose pink flowers (darker at the centre) through a long flowering season in late spring-early summer. It can grow up to 2.5m in the right conditions, with a spread of around 1.5m after a number of years. It should be grown in a sunny sheltered position in a moist but well drained soil.
  • succulent selection - Echeverias
    Out of Stock
Receive a selection of Echeverias in this special succulent top pick! Varieties will be chosen at random and will vary depending on availability but we'll aim to provide you with a mixed selection. Echeverias are succulent, evergreens from South America, with attractive rosette forming foliage. Ideal in a warm position, they grow well in troughs, pots and containers inside or outside on a sunny patio - just be sure to protect from the cold/frosts when combined with 'wet weather' as these plants thrive in drought-like conditions once established, originating from hot, sunny climes!
  • Griselinia VariegataGriselinia Variegata plants
A slower growing Griselinia, this attractive variety grows about 30cm / 1ft a year, if fed with a very good slow release fertiliser like Trevena Cross Fertiliser, making it very suitable for smaller sized hedges. It's attractive variegation is displayed on leaves that tend to be rounder in shape than on it's close relative Griselinia Green Jewel. Like the standard Griselinia, it will withstand salt laden winds but will only tolerate a seafront position if located in a sheltered estuary or inlet, like St Mawes or Falmouth in Cornwall. In exposed locations, Griselinia would need to be positioned several hundred feet away from the sea or for extremely exposed coastal sites like Land’s End, and Lizard Point in Cornwall, we would recommend an alternative like the tougher Elaeagnus or Olearia traversii. Plants on average supplied at 60-90cm high, but this can vary. A quick grower, we don’t find height of Griselinia is really such an important factor when considering the quality of the plant. A decent pot size provides a good indication of plant robustness and bushiness, and in fact we will cut our nursery plants down to encourage bushier growth (rather than a ‘leggy’ plant). if we feel it necessary. A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Griselinia Variegata hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
