We’ve chosen a special selection of our favourite plants to grow in larger numbers for our garden centre visitors and are now making these available for you to buy online. Our ‘top plant picks’ include unusual, rare and appealing specimens which we will deliver to you.

Many of these plants are so rare they are difficult to find at other garden centres across the country. Others have special historical significance to us. We’re proud to have been one of the very first places in the UK to grow and sell ‘exotica’ such as the Restios and continue to grow and sell these plants today.

All these plants are available to buy online, subject to availability as they sell out fast! Watch out for new additions being added to our Trevena favourites in our ‘top plant picks’ selection.

As a traditional nursery growing a huge range of plants we aren’t able to maintain a complete catalogue of plants in our online shop due to continuously changing stock levels. If you’d like to buy plants which aren’t on the website, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us as we are happy to arrange payment and delivery (subject to availability). Call us on 01736 763880.

  • Dicksonia antarctica tree fern trunksDicksonia antarctica tree fern
Bare root Dicksonia antarctica tree fern trunks - sent as bare trunks, not in a pot. Available in a range of sizes, from 1ft of trunk up to 6ft of trunk.  (For 1ft and 2ft trunks, please click here). Please contact us re. delivery costs if planning to purchase small trunks and large trunks as part of the same order. We will always try to give you the best price for delivery. Don’t forget the measurement also includes the trunk that will be ‘hidden’ within the pot/beneath the ground when planted out, so a 4ft trunk tree fern won’t be 4ft of ‘visible trunk’ – but nearer 3ft of visible trunk. Do take this into consideration when thinking about the size that would best suit you and your garden – and the fact that they are slow growing, so will take a great deal of time to reach a ‘desired height’ if you purchase one a way off that height. PLEASE NOTE: Up to 5ft trunks: Are sent on a pallet with fronds intact. These trunks, plus fronds, should arrive in good condition. 5-6ft trunks: Fronds may be removed before sending, to avoid damage being caused in transit. We can send with fronds on request, but we cannot guarantee that the fronds will arrive intact, despite doing our best to protect them when packing on to the pallet.

  • Psudosasa-japonica 15L
Available in a 15 litre pot. This tough, hardy, evergreen Bamboo is one of the best varieties for hedging and screening, as it forms the thickest of olive green canes, 4-6m/13-20ft tall – so great for traffic noise reduction and also one of the best-selling plants for screening noisy neighbours! It is also one of the only bamboos suitable for coastal and windy areas because it holds onto its large jungly looking leaves. It is very fast growing, with new shoots emerging from the base each summer, and superseding the previous year’s growth by around 1-1.5m/3.3-4.9ft. It spreads to form a clump, and can be pruned by either slicing off wayward shoots annually with a spade, or growing it alongside a lawn to stop it spreading. Alternatively, use a bamboo barrier when planting - as bamboos are shallow rooting this is fairly easy.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Pseudosasa japonica hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).
  • succulent selection - Echeverias
    Out of Stock
Receive a selection of Echeverias in this special succulent top pick! Varieties will be chosen at random and will vary depending on availability but we'll aim to provide you with a mixed selection. Echeverias are succulent, evergreens from South America, with attractive rosette forming foliage. Ideal in a warm position, they grow well in troughs, pots and containers inside or outside on a sunny patio - just be sure to protect from the cold/frosts when combined with 'wet weather' as these plants thrive in drought-like conditions once established, originating from hot, sunny climes!

Cyathea australis - A large, evergreen fern with a rough, thick trunk. It grows up to 4 metres high pretty quickly with a spread of 6-8 metres and each frond can reach up to 4 metres long in good conditions! The Cyathea tolerates the sun as long as the soil is moist, but does need a good sheltered site to thrive. Some sources suggest it’s hardier than a Dicksonia Antarctica. It will be hardy to minus 8 degrees centigrade, but be aware that the fronds will get frosted in severe winters, so give the plant protection. Probably the best tree fern for a sunny site with its large evergreen fern and hairy trunk. Plant in a sheltered area or with light shade and add peat when planting or inside in a conservatory. Schefflera digitata – also known as Pate. If you’d like to add exotic impact to your garden, this plant will make a fine statement. An evergreen shrub from New Zealand with large, deep green leaves up to 20 cms long and a height/spread of 3 metres/2.5 metres. In the summer it has large clusters of tiny greenish white flowers hanging below the leaves. It grows best when the roots are cool, so plenty of mulch will aid this plant along with rich, fertile soil that’s moist and well-drained. Plant in full sun or partial shade. It’s hardy to -8 degrees centigrade. Pictures are for guidance only. Our online shopping Terms & Conditions (postage and returns) can be viewed here: /online-shopping-terms-conditions/
