We’ve chosen a special selection of our favourite plants to grow in larger numbers for our garden centre visitors and are now making these available for you to buy online. Our ‘top plant picks’ include unusual, rare and appealing specimens which we will deliver to you.

Many of these plants are so rare they are difficult to find at other garden centres across the country. Others have special historical significance to us. We’re proud to have been one of the very first places in the UK to grow and sell ‘exotica’ such as the Restios and continue to grow and sell these plants today.

All these plants are available to buy online, subject to availability as they sell out fast! Watch out for new additions being added to our Trevena favourites in our ‘top plant picks’ selection.

As a traditional nursery growing a huge range of plants we aren’t able to maintain a complete catalogue of plants in our online shop due to continuously changing stock levels. If you’d like to buy plants which aren’t on the website, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us as we are happy to arrange payment and delivery (subject to availability). Call us on 01736 763880.

An evergreen shrub from New Zealand with large, deep green leaves up to 20 cms long and a height/spread of 3 metres/2.5 metres. • Psudosasa-japonica 15L
Available in a 15 litre pot. This tough, hardy, evergreen Bamboo is one of the best varieties for hedging and screening, as it forms the thickest of olive green canes, 4-6m/13-20ft tall – so great for traffic noise reduction and also one of the best-selling plants for screening noisy neighbours! It is also one of the only bamboos suitable for coastal and windy areas because it holds onto its large jungly looking leaves. It is very fast growing, with new shoots emerging from the base each summer, and superseding the previous year’s growth by around 1-1.5m/3.3-4.9ft. It spreads to form a clump, and can be pruned by either slicing off wayward shoots annually with a spade, or growing it alongside a lawn to stop it spreading. Alternatively, use a bamboo barrier when planting - as bamboos are shallow rooting this is fairly easy.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Pseudosasa japonica hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

Pseudopanax ferox – also known as the Toothed Lancewood. (Height 3-4 metres). Position in a sunny or partially shaded site and well-drained soil. Pseudopanax ‘Purpureus’ – also known as Purple Houmspara. Rare to the UK, this exciting, wind-hardy evergreen from New Zealand is easy to grow in fertile, well-drained soil and benefits from full sun. This small multi-stemmed shrub grows to 2.4 metres high with glossy, purple, leathery leaves. Perfect for creating a dramatic visual when planted with lighter coloured plants or variegated foliage. In our experience, this has proved hardy to minus 5 degrees centigrade. • Prunus Genolia foliagePrunus-Genolia-for-web

    Prunus laurocerasus Genolia

    £7.95£12.50
Available in a 2 litre pot & 4-5 litre pot (currently around 40-60cm high.) IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: We don’t believe the height of our hedging plants to be of huge importance when we make them available for sale. In fact we trim all of our hedging plants several times a year to promote a bushy plant, that will be ready to form a decent hedge right away. Height isn’t everything – while a 2 litre plant could easily be 1m tall without trimming, this ‘leggy’ specimen wouldn’t be the kind of plant that you want for a hedge. A trimmed one with multiple shoots, will establish as a hedge much more quickly, and we therefore believe shape and bushiness to be real signs of quality, rather than current plant height.
A per plant discount is available for bulk purchases of Prunus laurocerasus Genolia hedging plants. This discount will be applied in your basket if applicable (begins at 10+ plants).

Either plant in full sun in a large tub with protection for winter and water sparingly or outdoors in a frost-free, sheltered border in poor neutral to acid, well-drained soil.
