(Crown Fern)
|  | A New Zealand native fern that produces a shuttlecock shaped crown. The fronds are narrowly lanced shaped. These are bright green above and paler below with slightly wavy edges and can reach up to 90cms long. The fertile fronds (those carrying the spores) are widely spaced and have ladder like very narrow leaflets. Mature plants can form small trunks. A fairly hardy fern that should be able to take temperatures as low as minus 8 degrees. Prefers a light, damp, but well drained soil. |

|  | Found in damp shady forests of New Zealand the ladder like sterile fronds lie almost horizontal and form a rosette. These fronds have almost round, dull green leaflets and can reach 25 –80cms long. Very mature plants can form small trunks up to 50cm tall. The fertile fronds are dark brown and erect. A good fern for damp shady areas only needing protection from severe frost. |

| | Blechnum novae-Zealandiae Syn. Blechnum capense
|  | An evergreen fern from both islands of New Zealand that makes a stunning groundcover plant in shady areas. The dark green arching fronds reach a height of 0.5m to 1.5m tall with a spread of up to several metres wide. The new fronds turn a bronze colour before they change to deep green, forming a spreading patch of lush foliage for the jungle look garden. Should be hardy to about minus 8 degrees C. |

(Australian Tree Fern)
|  | Large evergreen fern with a rough thick trunk. Height up to 4m with a spread of 6-8m. Each frond can reach up to 4m long in good conditions. Tolerates sun if the soil is moist but needs a good sheltered site. Hardy to minus 8 degrees C but the fronds will get frosted in severe winters. Some sources say that it is hardier than Dicksonia antartica. Probably the best tree fern for a sunny site. Please note that sizes over 1ft are heavy so the carriage cost will be more - please ask us to quote. Also please note that some of the trunk is actually in the pot. |

(Silver Tree Fern)
|  | The national symbol of New Zealand. This tree fern has foliage that is green above and silvery white beneath, on a dark brown trunk. Slow growing to 10m. Produces fronds up to 3m long. Grow in shade in a sheltered position, add peat. Probably hardy to about minus 7°C in sheltered gardens but will need to be wrapped. Excellent in a shady conservatory. Will need protection from hard frosts. Plants larger than the 1ft size are heavy so please ask us to quote the carriage costs for the heavier sizes. Also please note that larger sizes are in very short supply indeed |

|  | Spreading tree-fern with black stem and a rosette of fronds to 3m in length, on hairy black stalks. Height 10-15m with a spread of 3-6m. Plant outdoors in sheltered part-shade in fertile moist soil; indoors in mix of leaf-mould, loam, sharp sand and charcoal, in filtered light, and high humidity. Water freely, especially in hot weather. This tree fern will need protection from frosts of more than a few degrees. |
