Vigorous evergreen shrub with midgreen foliage and winged red-brown capsules in late summer. Height and spread 1-3m. Salt-wind and drought –tolerant. Hardy to about minus 5 degrees C.

Vigorous small tree or large shrub with elliptical purple-red foliage and pink-purple or yellow capsules in late summer. Height and spread to 3m. Plant in full sun in fertile well-drained soil. Should be hardy to about minus 5 degrees. A good plant for coastal exposure.

An evergreen aromatic large shrub with creamy white flowers in April and May. Attractive copper tinted young foliage. Large leathery green leaves. Height and spread 2-3m. Needs some shelter from north and east winds. Plant in full sun in ordinary well drained garden soil. Male plants available.

 Drimys winteri (Winters bark)
Dense, upright shrub with aromatic bark and leathery leaves, dark green above, blue-white beneath. Large clusters of fragrant ivory white flowers. Max Height 15m. Max Spread 10m. Flowers April to May. Full sun/partial shade. Frost hardy. Back-fill with soil mixed with peat substitute and a suitable fertiliser.

 Echium candicans Syn E. fastuosum (Pride of Madeira)
This beautiful flowering evergreen shrub from Madeira forms a large bush to about 2m high and wide. Covered in long dense spikes of purplish blue flowers from April to June up to 60 cm long. A fast growing plant that needs very well drained soil and full sun. Can also be grown as a large tub plant using John Innes no. 3 with extra grit for drainage. Hardy to about minus 3 degrees C. so cover with fleece on frosty nights. Skin irritant.

 Echium pininana
Evergreen shrub with very large silver-hairy leaves. Seeds freely after flowering, from the very tall spikes of funnel shaped blue flowers, which are produced in the summer. Height 3 to 5m. Needs full sun and a well-drained soil. Can cause skin irritation. Protect from hard frost – it should be able to stand temperatures as low as minus 5 degrees C. A truly exotic looking plant from the Canary Islands.

 Eucalyptus gunni (Cider Gum)
Young leaves are rounded. Older leaves are wider and lance shaped. Will grow into a large tree or is best cut back hard each year to encourage young growth, which is very useful for flower arranging. Mature tree has attractive peeling bark.

This fast growing evergreen tree forms a compact pyramidal shape of attractive foliage and bark with cream flowers when mature. Height up to 10m with a spread of 5-7m. Can be pollarded annually to keep to a smaller size. Plant in deep rich well drained soil in full sun.

A great new herbaceous plant - with just about everything being red. Red leaves, red flower stems and red flowers. The colour is intensified by the sunlight. Height in the region of 50cms. Although hardy it is best to mulch well in the autumn. Plant with silver foliage for great results.

A bulbous perennial from South Africa with unusual green flowers in the summer. Leaves resemble that of a pineapple. Grow in light free draining soil in sun or light shade. Height up to 2m and will take some frost but will need mulching in the autumn.
