 Dasylirion wheeleri
Evergreen palm-like plant, with grey-green narrow sword-like toothed leaves. Slow-growing with an ultimate height of 1.5-2m. Plant in full sun in very well drained soil. Drought-resistant. Should be able to withstand temperatures as low as minus 3 degrees C

 Dasyliron texanum
A stunning architectural plant for the succulent garden that forms a rosette of rigid to reflexed thin arching leaves 70 – 130cms long with small curved teeth on a short trunk after many years. Plant in very free draining soil adding grit for extra drainage in a sunny warm spot. Can be grown in containers or tubs in John Innes no 3 with plenty of extra drainage. Hardy to minus 15 degrees when established. Protect from hard frosts when small.

 Dracena draco (Dragons Blood Tree)
From the Canary Islands this plant gets its name from the dark red sap. This fantastic tree has stiff 60 –100cms long sword shaped leaves. Eventually forms a grotesque woody trunk. Berries are produced in the summer. Withstands light frosts but needs to be grown in containers in colder areas and bought inside for the winter. Plant in very well drained soil in full sun. Mulch well for frost protection and fleece when hard frosts are forecast.

 Fasicularia pitcairnifolia
A wonderful plant for the succulent garden, a member of the Bromelaid family from southern Chile. Gives the appearance of a large clump of grass whose centre turns a bright pillar-box red in autumn after many plants have finished their flowering season. Slow growing, spread 75-100cm, height 60cm, plant with Yuccas, Agaves and other succulents in extremely well drained soil adding plenty of grit for drainage in full sun. Hardy to minus 10 degrees centigrade.

 Furcrae selloa marginata
An evergreen succulent plant that will need to be overwintered in a greenhouse or conservatory but makes a fascinating foliage plant in a pot outside during spring and summer. The variegated leaves can grow to 1.2m long forming a structural sword like plant to 1.5m high and 2m wide. Grow in full sun in a very well drained compost and keep dry in the winter.

 Furcraea longaeva
Perennial yucca-like plant with green sword-shaped leaves that are not vicious, as there are no spines on the leaf tips. White flower spikes are produced on mature plants in summer reaching to 3-4m. These flowers are followed by bulbils. Plant in full sun in a well-drained soil. Protect from hard frost. Height and spread to about 1.5m.

 Yucca carnerosana (Giant Dagger)
This architectural plant forms an immense rosette of very stout 1m long deep green very stiff leaves that are wide at the base and taper to a sharp point. Slowly forms a trunk that usually is completely clothed in the old dead leaves to add to the desert look effect. Grow in extremely well drained soil in full sun or grow in pots and containers. Protect from prolonged severe frosts, hardy to minus 10 degrees in the right conditions.

 Yucca Colour Guard
A hardy evergreen, exotic looking plant with yellowish cream and green variegated foliage forming a rosette with 70cms long leaves and 1m tall spikes of ivory flowers in late summer to autumn. A very attractive plant for succulent and exotic borders or for growing in tubs and pots. Plant in very well drained soil in full sun.

 Yucca elata
A stunning hardy evergreen with narrow grass like gracefully arching leaves that forms a full dense rounded rosette on top of a slowly forming single trunk. After many years it will branch to form a tree Yucca. Height can be between 1.8m to 4.6m. Hardy to minus 10 degrees C. Fragrant bell shaped white flowers appear on long stalks in late summer. Plant in full sun in very well drained soil adding extra grit for drainage. Also makes a great container plant.

 Yucca filamentosa (Adams Needle Yucca)
Hardy evergreen shrub that forms a large clump of spiky green leaves with white flower spikes in summer. Height with spike 1 to 2m spread 1.5 to 2m. Plant in full sun, in very well drained soil. Makes a useful tub plant. A very good plant for coastal planting as it is tolerant of salt winds.

 Yucca flaccida Golden Sword
A tough, salt wind hardy, evergreen shrub with bright green and yellow variegated foliage. Forms a clump of growth about 1m high. Long flower spikes with white flowers appear in late summer. Plant in full sun in well drained soil Grows well in tubs and pots.

 Yucca glauca (Not currently in season)
An evergreen shrub with a low, sometimes prostrate trunk. Has a large head of leaves 1-1.5m across. Long narrow green leaves are edged white. Flowers are a greenish white. This is a hardy Yucca that grows well in full sun in most garden soils as long as they are free draining. Height 1 to 1.5m.

 Yucca glauca radiosa
One of the hardiest Yuccas available. Stout narrow leaves 60cms long with sharp points form an architectural shaped specimen. The plant will eventually form a short stout trunk. In autumn a 1.8m tall spike of bell shaped fragrant greenish white flowers appear lasting well into the winter. Height from 50cm to 1.5m with a spread of 60cms to 1m. Grow in full sun in very well drained soil or in pots and containers.

 Yucca rigida
A hardy, sparsely branching variety from North Mexico that can reach 2.5-4m (8-12ft.) The trunks are covered in a light brown thatch of old dead leaves. The 1m long leaves are many and narrow, being bluish green in colour and very stiff, with tiny teeth along the margins. These leaves create a beautiful rounded shape. A 1m tall flower spike of white flowers appears in late summer. Plant in full sun in very well drained soil.

 Yucca torreyi
A bushy clumping Yucca with large heads of ivory-cream flowers in the summer. Grow in full sun in a free draining soil. Good for planting in coastal situations. An excellent plant for creating an exotic feel to virtually any garden. Protect from severe frost. Similar in hardiness to Yucca rostrata
