Restios
| | Chondropetalum tectorum dwarf
(Not currently in stock)
| | Known as Dakriet in it's native South Africa, this popular Restio forms a very attractive, fast growing, tufted clump of stunning foliage reaching about 1m in height and spread. Slender, compact spikes have brown bracts when flowering in the autumn. Used in South Africa for thatching hence the common name. Young plants look a little straggly but they soon straighten in to beautiful clumps of structural foliage. Grow in any well-drained soil in full sun, and can be planted near the coast. Danger zone minus 8 to minus 10 degrees C. |

| | Elegia capensis
(Broom Reed)
| | A stunning fast growing architectural Restio from South Africa the stems reach about 2m in height with slender branches arranged in whorls at the nodes. Forms a tussock about 1.5m wide. Golden brown flower heads are produced in the spring followed by dark brown seed heads. Excellent for cut foliage. Looks great when planted next to a pond and seems to prefer moisture in the summer. Plant in full sun in well drained moisture retentive soil. Although top growth may be cut back in temperatures as low as minus 8 degrees as long as the plant is mulched well in, our experience, it should regrow from the base. |
