Ferns and tree ferns, primarily native to Australia, can help create a wonderful woodland feel in the garden, when mixed with a variety of other plants. They grow best when planted in a sheltered position out of direct sunlight and strong winds. They will tolerate full sun if adequate moisture is provided but prefer the shade in a moist, organic soil with plenty of peat or leaf mould mixed in.
