This small stem-less Aloe from South Africa divides to form densely tufted groups of several dozen plants. The leaves of the rosettes have white projections and soft white prickles with red to orange flowers 30cm/12inches tall in spring. It should be grown in a very well drained soil, with plenty of extra grit, in full sun. Alternatively it can be grown in pots and containers in a gritty compost.
