An evergreen shrub from Australia with large, tough, leathery but also glossy leaves up to 30cm long and 10cm wide. In summer, metallic blue-green buds open to candle like cylindrical flower spikes up to 18cm long. Once established it should be hardy to about -5oC . It can be grown in a pot or container, and moved to a cool greenhouse or conservatory over winter, or can be grown in a free draining soil in the garden. Do not feed with any phosphates!
