These asters, also called Michaelmas Daisies, are clump forming upright perennials (height 70cm/2.3ft, spread 40cm/1.3ft), which in late summer and early autumn, bear loose corymbs, around 20cm/8 inches across, of clear, lavender blue flowerheads on stout stems. They grow best in well drained open, moderately fertile soil in full sun, and should be mulched annually after cutting back in late autumn.
Part of the 'Island series', this aster s naturally dwarf, making it an excellent container plant. It produces vibrant pink flowers with yellow centres from late summer to the first frost, and also attracts our wonderful garden friends - butterflies.
