One of the hardiest tree ferns - a slow growing variety with a thick gold-brown fibrous trunk. It displays spreading fern-like, light green fronds, with a height in the region of 2.5m/8.2ft after many years.
A splendid architectural specimen plant which can be grown in a large container or in the ground in a cool, sheltered, shady site. Alternatively it can be grown in a cool conservatory, protected from bright sunlight. It has proven hardy to -9°C in the UK but in very cold areas the crown should be protected with a mulch of bracken or straw.
It should be watered freely, especially in warm weather, and while it is one of the best varieties for full sun, it should still be provided with plenty of moisture. Preferring a fertile soil, you should make use of a high nitrogen fertiliser at the base of the fern or on the trunk during the growing season after the first year.
Please note that these are available at the nursery or can be delivered by special negotiation.
These ferns are also available at the garden centre in varying sizes, priced at £50.00 per foot of trunk.
