Creating Christmas Magic for Children & Charities in CornwallJanuary 10, 2017
Trevena Cross Nurseries near Helston made plenty of children smile in the run up to Christmas with its magical Santa’s Grotto, but it wasn’t just children that were smiling, as all proceeds raised from visits to Father Christmas, during the three BIG Christmas weekends at Trevena Cross, are being given to two wonderful local charities.
With big support from The Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, Trevena Cross raised £3,320.00 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance and Cornwall Leukaemia Trust.
Trevena Cross owner Graham Jeffery comments:
“We built on last year’s successful Christmas weekends to make this year’s even bigger and better. We built a brand new grotto from scratch, and the team worked really hard to make sure that it would be a truly magical experience for the whole family. We invested in real wow factor with our giant polar bear – a great photo opportunity – and our entertaining talking owl, Oggy! With extra touches, including plenty of snow, bubbles, chocolates and fabulous lights, we seemed to find the recipe for success!
It is really satisfying to know that we have helped lots of local families create wonderful memories in the build up to Christmas, but even more satisfying to be able to give two wonderfully worthy Cornish charities £1,660.00 a piece, thanks to the support of all our grotto visitors. It makes the many hours of hard work, beforehand and during the event, completely worthwhile.
A big thanks to The Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, without whom, it wouldn’t all have been possible.”

“On the Six Days of Christmas… at Trevena Cross”November 22, 2016
With the goal to be the most memorable grotto experience for children in the area, this year’s charity Santa’s Grotto at Trevena Cross Nurseries, is the result of boundless imagination, creativity and hard work. Opening for the first time on the garden centre’s first of three BIG Christmas weekends, on the 3rd and 4th December (from 11am), it promises to really capture the magic of Christmas – especially when visitors will be warmly welcomed by a very special chatty guest, before they reach the big man himself!
As last year, the success of the grotto would not be possible without the support of Helston-Lizard Rotary Club, who are volunteering their services again this year to help make the grotto possible. Visits to the grotto will be charged at £5 per child, to include a lovely gift from Santa, and with all proceeds donated to several designated local Cornish charities, including Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust and Cornwall Leukaemia Trust.
On all three weekends, (3rd & 4th, 10th & 11th, 17th & 18th December) the grotto experience will be complemented by a Christmas tree forest, a wonderful undercover Christmas Market (10am-4pm) made up of around 50 local businesses/traders selling quality food, drink and a massive mix of crafts; live music, delicious food inside (in the Garden Kitchen Café) and out, and magnificent displays of lights, sculptures, gifts, decorations, snow, face painting…and the list goes on.
An ideal outing for the whole family, with free entry, free parking and good disabled access; plus a perfect opportunity to pick up the all-important Christmas tree too – with Norway Spruce trees up to 7ft high from only £20 each, and Nordmann Fir trees up to 7ft high, from only £25 each.
For more details about the three weekends please visit Trevena Cross Nurseries Facebook page.

Christmas at Trevena Cross – Three BIG WeekendsOctober 12, 2016
We’ve held off talking about it for as long as we can… but now Christmas is starting to be rolled out in the shop, it seems very fitting to make our upcoming Christmas celebrations official, by posting details of our “Three BIG Weekends” here!
When’s it happening?
After the overwhelming success of our two weekend event last year, we’re extending it to three weekends this year, the 3rd & 4th December, 10th & 11th December, and 17th & 18th December.
Our undercover plant area next to the shop will be where most of the action will take place, in summary, housing:
*** A fantastic Christmas Market, which will run from 10am-4pm each day, composing a mix of around 50 quality local produce and craft stalls, (and everything Christmassy!) A number of repeat stallholders (from 2015) will be in attendance, but we’ll also be welcoming new faces to this year’s market. Every day will see a new line-up too, so the market won’t be replicated each time, but mixed and matched to keep things fresh!
*** A magical Santa’s Grotto, which will open from 11am each day and dazzle children and adults alike, as they meander their way through a Christmas tree forest, and approach the much anticipated ‘dark tunnel’ filled with plenty of magic!…It will also be the path to the big man in red and his festive grotto! A talking guest (“hoot hoot”) will greet visitors to the entrance – a superb, ‘show stopping’ addition to this year’s Christmas spectacular! A small fee to the grotto will apply, which will include a gift for all of Santa’s visitors. All grotto proceeds to go to a designated charity.
*** PLUS live festive music, Christmas shopping (the best gift shopping in West Cornwall, lights, decorations…the all important tree!) delicious food and drink inside the Garden Kitchen Cafe and outside amongst the hub of activity! AND plenty of extra entertainment for the younger crowd, including face painting, snow, a giant polar bear, a fun festive atmosphere… and so much more!
We’re currently making a huge investment in our overflow car park too, to ensure that we can handle the anticipated numbers through the gates come December…. and with free parking, free entry, good disabled access, it is one for the whole family to enjoy!
Simply pick your day and come on down. We can’t wait to see you! 🙂
(TIP: Put it in your diary by ‘liking’ the events on our Facebook Page !)
Recruiting Christmas ‘Parking’ VolunteersSeptember 21, 2016
Fancy helping us out in December in exchange for a multi-use discount voucher for the garden centre (valid for 12 months)?
We’re seeking friendly, willing, hard working volunteers to help us create six magical days for visitors to the centre on our three BIG Christmas weekends!
On the 3rd & 4th, 10th & 11th and 17th & 18th December we’ll be hosting a big Christmas Market, Santa’s Grotto, Christmas displays, lights, Christmas tree forest, snow, musical entertainment… and the list goes on.
Primarily we need help in the car park… our overflow car park in particular, to ensure cars can move freely and safely in and out of parking spaces, and the car park entrance and exit. Parking attendants will be crucial for ensuring that the days run smoothly, and that everyone remains in good Christmas spirits! Help elsewhere may also be required over the six days but we don’t have further details at this stage.
The gratefully appreciated help of volunteers will be rewarded with a generous discount voucher which can be used at the centre for a 12 month period. Details to be confirmed, and level of discount likely dependent on hours/days of help provided.
If you’d be interested in being a parking attendant volunteer please get in touch – either drop your contact details and preferred volunteering days into the shop on your next visit, give us a call on 01736 763880 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to hearing from you (and promise from now on, not to bombard you with too much ‘Christmas’ too early on!)
Trevena Cross presents cheque to The CoveFebruary 8, 2016
Along with the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, we have helped to bring the Macmillan Cancer Support Cove Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital another step closer with a terrific donation of £2,460 – which we presented to the cause here at Trevena Cross last week.
It’s the result of our first ever charity ‘winter wonderland’ event, supported by members of Helston-Lizard Rotary, who volunteered as Santas for children visiting the Christmas Grotto.
Trevena Cross Owner Graham Jeffery said, “Just over 500 children visited along with parents and relatives which was far more than we expected and meant we’ve been able to give such a sizeable donation to The Cove. It was a terrific success and we’re already planning a bigger event for Christmas 2016!”
The Cove Macmillan Support Centre will provide a hub for support and advice for people with cancer and their families and friends. The Appeal has a target of £1 million.
Trevena Cross raises £2,460 for charityDecember 22, 2015
Trevena Cross Nurseries near Helston has made plenty of children smile in the run up to Christmas with its twinkly lights, animal sculptures, snow machine, and of course Santa himself. But it’s not just children that will be smiling after the big man’s visit to the garden centre – as all proceeds raised from visits to Santa’s Grotto, are going to a wonderful local charity.
After two weekends and two late opening evenings, the Trevena Cross ‘Christmas Extravaganza’ is over, and the garden centre is delighted to announce, that thanks to the 516 children that visited Santa’s Grotto, and big support from The Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, they’ve raised £2,460.00 for The Cove Macmillan Support Centre in Truro.
Trevena Cross owner Graham Jeffery comments:
“We decided to go all out for Christmas this year, which is very different from normal – we normally keep it low key. We’ve been delighted with the response all round and how all aspects of our ‘Extravaganza’ have gone, but most satisfying of all has to be raising nearly £2,500 for The Cove Macmillan Support Centre. We couldn’t have done it without the support of The Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard , so big thanks to them”.
The Cove Macmillan Support Centre is an incredible charity that will provide a dedicated facility for people affected by cancer in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Hopefully this money will help put a little smile on the charity’s face this Christmas, as they edge ever nearer their £1m local fundraising target.
